Weil Academy attracts Top National and International Players from 5 Continents, over 14 Countries and 12 USTA Sections!

This year, Weil Academy has attracted players ranked in the Top 20 ITF, Top 10 in the US in their age divisions, as well as many #1 International players from countries like Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Moldova, Cyprus, Germany, Egypt, Japan, China, and many more, all training together to be the best players they can be. Weil players are serious about improving & winning, and they prove it by consistently claiming major junior titles all over the world. The passion and intensity is contagious generating an energy that sets Weil apart from other international tennis academies!

Weil’s location in Southern California and our highly renowned International Coaching Staff has helped create the most dynamic training environment of any academy in the world. Weil helps its players improve their competitive games with the goal to compete for tournament titles at every level.


Meet the Weil Players of 2007-2008:


Radu Albot, (#20 ITF, Moldovan Davis Cup Team, Moldova)
Radu, 17, comes to Weil during a stellar junior career reaching a career high Top 15 ITF. Radu has begun his ATP career at Weil and will be playing a combination of Futures and Challenger events in 2007 and 2008, as well as, going for a Top 10 ITF ranking by competing in the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowls in December. Radu just finished competing at the Jr. US Open in September where he reached the round of 16 losing to eventual champion Ricardas Berrankis of Lithuania. Radu will improve more this year and establish a strong ATP ranking.


Collin Altamirano (Top 20 So Cal Boys 12s Santa Barbara, CA)
Collin, 11, returns to Weil for his 3rd year and currently has a Top 20 Ranking in the So Cal Boys 12s. Collin already has impressive results in the 12s reaching the finals of the Doubles at the USTA Clay Crt Nationals in July and the Singles Final at the Mike Agassi No Quit Tournament this fall. Collin is a great young man who has a beautiful game that will put him in the Top 10 in So Cal and Top 25 in the US early next year.


Ify Aniefuna (Gresham, Oregon)
Ify, 13, is in her first year at Weil and her goals are to become a national player in the next 6-9 months. Ify is physically gifted with terrific strokes and with some tournament experience will improve quickly. Ify has started the fall strong taking her first singles title at an Open tournament in South Bay. We are all happy to have Ify with us this year!


Cameron Austin (Top 300 So Cal Boys 16s, Oak Park, CA)
Cameron, 16, is in his 3rd year at Weil and has shown speedy progress. Cam just started training full time last spring and wants to play high school and college tennis. Cam is joined at Weil by his little sister, Shayne. Cameron is showing improved results this fall and should reach his goal to be a top 50 So Cal player in the Boys 16s.


Shayne Austin (Top 15 So Cal G14s, Top 60 US G14s, Oak Park, CA)
Shayne, 14, is in her 3rd year at Weil and has been one of the fastest upward movers in the academy over that time. Shayne has quickly established herself as one of the top So Cal girls her age and is already establishing a solid So Cal and USTA ranking in the G16s. This fall Shayne will compete in some international events and continue her hot streak in USTA events while she improves her overall game. Shayne is a tough competitor and will stop at nothing to be the best.


David Barron (Ojai, California)
David, 13, is in his first year at Weil and has just begun to train more seriously this fall after joining our Summer Camps this past summer. David has nice strokes, is a great guy and will improve quickly with more training and tournament competition. We will look for David to establish a So Cal ranking this year in the B14s as he improves his all around game. We are all happy to have David with us this year!


Brandon Beardsley (El Cajon, CA)
Brandon, 14, joins Weil for the first time this fall and looks to establish a So Cal ranking, improve his overall game and start competing for titles at the Jr. Open level. Brandon is a great young man, very smart and is serious about improving his game. We are all happy to have Brandon with us this year!


Gail Brodsky (Top 10 US Girls 18s, Top 20 ITF, Top 400 WTA Brooklyn, NY)
Gail, 16, is in her fifth year at Weil and is one of the Top 5 sixteen year olds in the world! Gail has had a great 2007 winning the Easter Bowl G18s Championship, reaching the Quarterfinals of Jr. Wimbledon and improving her WTA ranking by over 300 points by reaching the semifinals of the Troy Tennis Classic $50,000.00 Challenger! Gail has won so many titles nationally and internationally we cannot list them all here. One of Gail’s greatest achievements so far has been to win the Ojai Tournament 4 years in a row in 4 different age divisions. In 2004, Gail won the Girls 14s, 2005 the Girls 16s, 2006 the Girls 18s Title and in 2007 Gail won the Women’s Professional Open Title! Gail’s goals are to be Top 10 ITF and Top 300 WTA by the end of 2007. Gail will stop at nothing to reach her goals!


Yuki Chiang (Ojai, CA, #1 So Cal Girls 12s, Top 75 USTA G14s)
Yuki, 12, is a fast rising player whose intensity is infectious. Yuki is the 2006 So Cal Girls 12s Sectional Champion and reached the Quarterfinals of her first major International event at the 2006 Eddie Herr G12s tournament. Yuki was the youngest player ever accepted at Weil at the age of 8 yrs old and has consistently been one of our most dedicated players. We look for great things from Yuki this year again!


Leo Christofides (Nicosia, Cyprus)
Leo, 17, is in his first year at Weil and has come out of the gates with a bang winning his first tournament title in September. Leo has a great attitude, moves extremely well and will improve quickly this year. Leo should end up with a nice college placement at the end of this year.


Ashley Dai (Temple City, CA, Top 30 US Girls 14s, Top 5 So Cal Girls 14s)
Ashley, 13, returns to Weil for her 2nd year after a solid summer of competition that has propelled her into the Top 30 nationally in her first year of G14s. Ashley has a big desire to win with a great offensive game and cat-like quickness. Ashley started fall 2007 with a big win at the first So Cal Designated at Los Cabelleros – Ashley won the G14s Singles Title without losing a single set. Ashley’s goal is to become a Top 10 US player by the end of 2007 and compete again at the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl tournaments.


Vinod Dasari (Santa Clara, CA, So Cal Top 200 Boys 18s)
Vinod, 18, is taking a year after high school to hone his skills at Weil to prepare for a career in college tennis next year. Vinod has a big game and has already begun putting things together in tournament competition. We expect Vinod to grow quickly and find a great college to attend next year.


Skyler Davis (Top 40 So Cal B16s , Malibu, CA)
Skyler, 15, is in his first year at Weil and has the potential to become a Top 10 So Cal & Top 100 US player by the summer of 2008. Skyler has a great game that propelled him into the top 25 in Boys 14s, but he is ready to up the ante and go for a Top 10 ranking in B16s. Skyler has the attitude and determination to achieve all of his goals. Skyler started out strong this fall reaching the semifinals of the tough Wilson Jr. Championships Level 3 National in Palm Springs. It is great to have Skyler with us this year.


Grigor Dimitrov (#40 ITF, #1 Bulgaria Boys 16s Haskovo, Bulgaria)
Grigor is back at Weil for his 3rd year and is on track to become a top professional player in the next 3 years. Grigor had a great summer, winning the 2007 European Boys 16s Singles Championship and rising to top 40 ITF after some strong singles results in Grade 1 ITFs. In New York at the US Open, Grigor and doubles partner Vacek Popisil reached the Jr. US Open Doubles Final. In 2006, Grigor pulled off a rare feat by winning the 2006 Eddie Herr Boys 16s Singles Title and then winning the 2006 Orange Bowl Boys 16s Singles Championship in back to back weeks. Grigor finished 2005 as the #1 fourteen yr old in the World having won the 2005 European Championships, the 2005 Eddie Herr Championships and reaching the finals of the 2005 Jr. Orange Bowl.


Alex Early (Tracy, CA)
Alex, 18, is in his first year at Weil and is taking a year after high school to improve his game to attain a better college tennis placement in 2008. Alex has a nice all around game and good athleticism, and with some improvement in his technique, he should become a solid college level player.


Natalie Edell (Westlake Village, CA, Top 200 So Cal Girls 16s)
Natalie, 15, is in her 2nd year at Weil. She has begun to put things together in her game this summer and has begun to win matches at the Designated level this fall. Natalie is a terrific athlete and is beginning to use her athleticism and technique to put together a winning game. We expect Natalie to rise quickly in the So Cal Rankings and be competing on a National Level by the spring of 2008.


Kei Ezaka (Top 15 So Cal Boys 12s, Kariya, Japan)
Kei, 12, is in his 2nd year at Weil and comes to us as one of the top young prospects in Japan. Kei is a focused and talented player who wants to be #1 in So Cal and then #1 in the world! His favorite player is Roger Federer and Kei’s dedication rivals the older Federer. Kei has steadily improved in his time at Weil. He is a fierce competitor and plays every point as if it is match point. We look for Kei to compete for titles on many levels this year and to develop into a top international player in the next few years.


Valentin Franc (Moedling, Austria)
Valentin, 15, is in his first year at Weil and brings a strong all around game to the academy. Valentin has played regionally in Austria for a short time and now looks to take his game to the international level. Valentin brings a strong training attitude and a big desire to improve to the court everyday. Valentin should progress quickly and we look for him to contend for titles at the So Cal level this year.


Taylor French (Top 250 US, Top 50 So Cal, Hidden Hills, CA)
Taylor, 17, returns to Weil for her senior year after taking a year off. Taylor is a very talented lefty who has an all around game that will take her far in the 18s and into college tennis. Taylor had a great summer qualifying for and wining matches at the highest national level. This year, Taylor will continue to improve her game with the goal of going into college as a Top 100 US Player. Taylor already has several great college offers from some prestigious schools back east and will choose the right academic & tennis fit for her.


Kozen Fukumori (Japan)
Kozen, 16, is in his first year at Weil and brings a great training attitude with him to the courts every day. Kozen has already reached 2 finals this fall, winning one of them. Kozen is here to improve his game and his English language skills in order to attend a US college in the next 2 years.


Ryan Hallsten (Fairbanks, AK)
Ryan, 17, is in his first year at Weil after attending holiday and summer camps last year. Ryan has chosen to complete his senior year at Weil and to aim for a great college placement. Ryan will be looking to improve his game and aim for the national level by the summer of 2008. Ryan is a strong student who will have many good college choices next year.


Aaron Hamilton (Top 90 So Cal Boys 18s, So Woodland Hills, CA)
Aaron, 17, is in his 2nd year at Weil and has improved his tournament results in a dramatic fashion by reaching the 3rd round at the first So Cal Designated this fall. Aaron is a steady player with a high tennis IQ and he will improve his ranking quickly this year. Aaron has matured a great deal in the past year, is much more determined to make it to the Top 50 in So Cal and to achieve a great tennis placement in college next fall. We are excited about Aaron’s progress and expect more improvement and results in the next 6-9 months.


Mathew Harmon (El Centro, CA, Boys 16s So Cal)
Matt, 16, is back at Weil for his 2nd year with just 2 years of competitive tennis under his belt, but a great deal of heart, desire, intelligence and discipline. Matt competes with great intensity and will develop his strokes to match his competitiveness over the next year. Matt’s improvement over the last 6 months has been dramatic and it is only a matter of time before all of his hard work and determination turns into winning tennis at the Top 100 Level in So Cal. Matt is also a great young man with a lot going for him and will clearly be successful at anything he decides to do in life.


Yurie Hashiguchi (Top 75 So Cal G18s, Sayamashi, Japan)
Yurie, 17, is in her 2nd year at Weil and is an aggressive player with a great all around game. Yurie attacks well and has a big forehand to compliment her excellent court movement. Yurie’s training attitude is one of the best ever at Weil. Yurie has begun to compete in ITF’s around the world and will certainly find a way to be successful at this next level. Yurie is always smiling and ready to train as hard as it takes to improve.


Abby Hayley ( Top 175 US, The Woodlands, TX)
Abby, 16, is in her first full year at Weil after doing several short term trainings here over the past 3 years. Abby is always intense and competes like a champion, never giving up and playing every point like it is match point. Abby began 2007 with a ranking of around 1,000 USTA, and through sheer determination has moved into the top 200 by September. This girl can do whatever she sets her mind to do. We love having Abby at Weil and hope she stays for a good while.


T. Powell Hedley (New York City, NY, Eastern Section)
Powell, 17, returns for his senior year at Weil and looks to take his game to the next level, while positioning himself for a great college placement for fall 2008. Powell has a solid ground game and is looking to improve his serve, transition & volley as he prepares for college tennis in 2008. With more match play under his belt this year, Powell will be at the top of the Eastern Section by the end of 2007, and possibly enter some national events in spring of 2008. Powell has identified Georgetown as his first choice for college and he has a great chance of being admitted and playing next year for the Hoyas!


Andrew Hutchinson (Top 40 Texas Top 300 US, Houston, TX)
Andrew, 13, joins Weil this year from a strong Texas Section where Andrew has proven himself a tough competitor. Andrew is an extremely talented player who is developing his all court & transition games to take his game to the next level. Andrew is a fitness fiend and you can always find him in the gym or on the court. Andrew’s attitude and determination will carry him forward and is game will soon follow. We expect Andrew to rise quickly in the National rankings and for him to surprise some players at the Winter Nationals this December.


Ahmed Ismail (Scholarship to UCLA, Ojai, CA)
Ahmed, 18, has moved on to UCLA on scholarship this fall after a stellar 3 year career at Weil. Ahmed is an excellent student, and a top tennis talent. Ahmed typifies the student-athlete that we want all of our players to strive towards becoming. Ahmed will try to break right into the lineup at UCLA and have a big impact on the team as a freshman. Ahmed will train periodically at Weil when his school schedule permits.


Moustafa Ismail (Cairo, Egypt, Top 5 Egypt Boys 16s, So Cal Boys 16s Top 100)
Moustafa, 16, is in his 3rd year at Weil as he continues honing his game and fitness in preparation for college tennis is 2 years. Moustafa will begin ITF play sometime this year, as well as, try to improve his So Cal ranking in order to qualify for some Level 2 Nationals. Moustafa is an excellent student and has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school.


Rina Kanazawa (Japan, So Cal Girls 14s Top 25, USTA Top 200)
Rina, 14, is in her 3rd year at Weil and has risen very quickly to become a solid player who can stay on the baseline or attack the net. In just her second year at Weil, Rina reached the final of the prestigious Ojai Tournament Girl’s 14s age division losing in 2 close sets to Weil roommate Rio Kitagawa. Rina has risen into the top 20 of the So Girls 14s, and will now be moving to the G16s this year. Rina will compete internationally this fall at the Eddie Herr and Jr. Orange Bowls and will continue to rise in So Cal in the Girls 14s & 16s divisions.


Yusuke Kanehira (Japan, So Cal Boys 18s Top 50)
Yu, 17, is in his 2nd year at Weil and has a great training attitude to go along with his all court game. Yu has all the shots and when he puts them together more consistently, he will be a force on the court. Yu has already contended for some titles in So Cal Jr. Open Tournaments and should continue to improve his technique and competitive results. Yu should quickly move into the Top 30 in So Cal by spring and begin his ITF play this spring also.


Samantha Kaneta (Top 5 Hawaii, Top 350 US, Honolulu, HI)
Sam, 16, is in her first year at Weil and shows great potential to improve to be a top 100 player in the next year. Samantha’s movement is world class and her strokes are solid, which gives her a big advantage. Sam will work on becoming more mentally tough this next year and that puzzle piece should prove the difference to get Sam into the top 100 in the US.


Bozhidar Katsarov (Scholarship UC Berkeley, #1 So Cal Boys 18s, #3 US Boys 18s)
Bo,18, has begun this fall at UC Berkeley after 3 tremendous years at Weil. During Bo’s first year at Weil he rose from #600 USTA B16s to #1 USTA B16s in just 6 months time! The list of his national and sectional titles is too long to list, but they are many. Bo also captured the prestigious Ojai Tournament Boys 16s Singles Titles 2 years in a row, joining Weil’s Kallim Stewart as the only boys to ever achieve the feat. Bo’s father is one of our Head Coaches so Bo will be coming to train with us during breaks from college.


Rio Kitagawa ( So Cal Girls 14s, Top 5 ITF Top 900, Japan)
Rio,14, is in her 4th year at Weil and has shown great improvement over the last 2 years. Rio will begin ITF play this year and should establish a Top 400 ITF ranking by the spring of 2008. In 2006 Rio won the prestigious 2006 Copper Bowl Girls 12s Singles Title. Rio should prove to be one of the top 5 G14s in the US and Japan by the end of 2007.


Vladimir Kruk (#275 ITF # 1 Boys 16s Belarus, Grodno, Belarus)
Vladimir joins Weil this year after a terrific summer where he won 2 ITF’s in a row and improved his ITF ranking over 300 places. Vlad was a Top 14 year old in Europe before an injury kept him out of tennis for a year, but he is coming back strong. Vlad is determined to be Top 200 ITF by the end of 2007, and then aim to qualify for the summer Jr. Grand Slams by late May. Vlad brings a big intensity every day to his training and we believe he will be Top 50 ITF by the end of the summer of 2008.


Yusuke Kusuda (Top 30 So Cal Boys 18s, ITF Top 900, Japan)
Yusuke, 17, is in his 2nd year at Weil and is an aggressive baseliner who has devastating ground strokes. Yusuke reached the final of the Ojai Tournament Boys 16s division last year, and has begun playing ITF events this fall. Yusuke is one of our strongest players, works as hard as anyone, and has a big desire to win. We look for Yusuke to win several So Cal Designateds and improve his ITF ranking into the Top 500 by the end of 2007.


Jack LaPlante (Top 25 So Cal Boys 10s, Ojai, CA)
Jack, 10, is in his 2nd year at Weil and is still the youngest player at Weil. Jack’s move up the rankings in So Cal has been nothing less than dramatic, moving into the top 25 by the end of the summer Jack is a very determined young player whose passion for the game is deep. Jack is tenacious and has a killer forehand. Jack should finish 2007 in the Top 10 in So Cal in the Boys 10s, and be ready to move to the Boys 12s in January where he will be successful right away.


Xingyao Li (Beijing, China, Top 80 China Girls 16s)
Xingyao, 16, is in her 3rd year at Weil and has shown strong progress every year. Xingyao is a pleasure to have at the academy as she is bright, funny, hard working and a great student. The Ivy Leagues are where Xingyao is headed. It is great to have Xingyao back this year and we look for her to continue her steady improvement and bring home more titles in 2007 and 2008!


Denis Lin (Top 25 US B18s, Thousand Oaks, CA)
Denis, 16, is one of the top sixteen year olds in the US and in the world, for that matter. Denis has only played a limited tournament schedule this year and is still ranked in the top 25 in the US in the Boys 18s! And Denis just turned 16 this fall! Denis will travel with us to play some international tournaments this fall and see if he can improve his ITF ranking, as well as, compete head to head with some of the best sixteen year olds in the world. We believe Denis will prove to everyone that he is at the top of the list amongst US professional prospects.


Chen Liu (Shang Hai, China, Top 100 So Cal Boys 18s)
Chen, 18, is in his 4th year with Weil and has a great attitude on the court and off. Chen is one of the most popular players at Weil with a great sense of humor and a nice disposition. Chen has improved steadily in his time at Weil and has developed into a college prospect. Chen should have some nice options for college next year. It will be tough to let Chen go, but we are enjoying our last year with Chen and will send him off with a bang!


Adam Luba (Top 200 US, Top 5 Nor Cal, Monterey, CA)
Adam, 16, joins Weil full time for his second year and is quickly stepping up his game to be a real threat nationally this year. Adam has already shown flashes of a big offensive game and will add that to his already steady and varied baseline game. Adam has all of the shots and can do so many things with the ball. Adam is also a fierce competitor and will put this all together this year to improve his national and ITF rankings. We see great potential in Adam and expect him to compete for titles on many levels this year!


Rebecca Marino (Top 75 ITF, #2 Girls 18s Canada, Vancouver, BC, Canada)
Rebecca, 17, joins Weil this year as a senior and will take her big game all over the world to prove that she is a force to contend with in women’s tennis. Rebecca started the summer out well winning 2 ITF tournaments Grades 4 & 5, but then shocked everyone including herself by winning the Canadian Jr. Open Grade 1 Singles Championships this September beating a top 10 player and several top 20 players along the way to the title. Rebecca improves her ranking over 200 places and will now play a schedule to get herself in to the Top 20 ITF, and travel to all 4 Jr. Grand Slams in 2008! Rebecca has also just committed to attend defending NCAA Champion Georgia Tech Women’s Team and Head Coach Bryan Shelton couldn’t be happier. Rebecca is the 2nd Weil player to attend Shelton’s program, joining Kirsten Flower on a stellar team. We look forward to helping Rebecca get the most out of her game this year and to achieving all of her goals as she prepares to go to GA Tech next fall!


Ksenia Milevskaya (#3 ITF, #335 WTA, #1 G18s Belarus, Minsk, Belarus)
Ksenia, 17, had another terrific summer as she reached the singles semifinals & won the Doubles Championships at both the French Open and the US Open Junior Grand Slam Tournaments. Ksenia had capped off a great 2006 by reaching the Orange Bowl Finals this past December. Ksenia came to Weil in 2005 ranked #63 ITF in the World but with a game we all saw could be Top 10. In 2006, no junior player has had a better year. Ksenia has won 5 Grade 1 ITF Tournaments and has improved her ranking to #2 in the world by December. Ksenia won her first professional tournament at the Ojai in 2006 becoming the 2nd youngest player to win the Women’s Open (only 2 times US Open Champion Tracy Austin was younger!) Ksenia also reached the finals and the semis of 2 Women’s $50,000.00 Challengers in France, as well as, won her first $10,000.00 Futures in Sweden this summer. We expect Ksenia to improve a great deal this year and to break into the Top 100 WTA by 2008.


Natalia Nader (Mexico City, DF, Mexico)
Natalia, 13, joins Weil this year and has big goals to become a top professional player one day. Natalia has an aggressive game and a great attitude and will go far in tennis. Natalia competes like a champion and has already won one singles title this fall. We look for Natalia to continue to develop her strokes, gain more competitive experience and to take her game to new heights this year!


Jeffrey Ng (Woodbury, NY)
Jeffrey, 15, joins Weil this year to improve his strokes and his competitive game. Jeffrey hasn’t played a lot of competitive tennis, so he has a lot to learn and will enjoy competing as much as the Weil players compete. We look for Jeffrey to improve quickly, to begin to win matches at the Sectional level, and to prepare himself to achieve a college and tennis placement at a nice university when the time comes.


Tanya Noury (Top 10 Girls 14s Hawaii, Maui, Hawaii)
Tanya, 14, is in her 2nd year with Weil and continues to rapidly improve. Tanya is very bright, loves to compete and is determined to be a National Player in the next year. Tanya has improved her consistency and strokes to compete at a top Sectional level, and will look to contend for some titles this fall. We believe she will reach her goals and be playing nationally in 2008.


Masa Ono (So Cal Top 20 Boys 12s, Kanagawa, Japan)
Masa, 11, is in his second year at Weil and has learned to win at all levels so far. Masa possesses a devastating serve, solid ground strokes and a determination to improve. Masa won 2 So Cal Designateds in a row last year in Boys 10s and has started this year out well by reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals in Boys 12s, and has a Top 20 Ranking after 1 month! We look for Masa to develop into a top international player in the next few years.


Ben Paras (Top 50 Southwest Section Boys 16s, Tucson AZ)
Ben, 16, has a great looking game to go with his outstanding athleticism and strong mind. This will prove to be a lethal combination to his opponents after Ben learns more about competitive tennis and is able to bring his entire game to the match every time. Ben has a great attitude, knows his strengths and weaknesses and is sharp enough to figure out how to beat an opponent. We are excited to have Ben with us this year and expect Ben to contend for titles on the Sectional level as well as improve his Southwest ranking in a big way!


Billy Pecor (Top 20 So Cal and Top 150 US Boys 16s, Ojai, CA)
Billy, 15, is in his 2nd year at Weil and has a big game that is holding up on the National and now the International level. Billy has begun playing ITF’s this fall and will see success very quickly as he brings his all court game to his matches. Billy has a great attitude, competes hard every match, and is learning to keep the faith in himself for entire matches. Right now, not many players can stop Billy-- except Billy. Billy has had a strong summer qualifying for Kalamazoo in his first year of B16s, reaching the round of 16 at So Cal Sectionals, and just before summer reaching the finals of the Ojai Tournament Boys 14s. We look for Billy to develop into one of the Top 10 sixteen year olds in So Cal by the end of 2007, and improve his National ranking to the top 100 level.


Thomas Pecor (Top 90 US, Boys 12s Top 20 So Cal, Ojai, CA)
Thomas, 12, joins Weil this year as a promising young player who will improve quickly this year. Thomas has already established himself in Southern California by reaching the finals of his first big designated tournament and sending a message to the other So Cal players that he is a top 10 level player! Before joining Weil, Thomas has already established himself as a top 10 player in the Texas section. Thomas’s game is an all court game with terrific technique on all strokes. Thomas will grow into his offensive game in the next 2 years and be a national force in the Boys 14s next year. We look for Thomas to continue to develop his game as he rises to the top of the So Cal Section.


Denise Poltavski (Woodland Hills, CA)
Denise, 13, joins Weil this year and looks to improve her competitive game and improve her strokes and tactics to become a top So Cal player. Denise is a quiet girl but is fiercely determined to improve and win. Denise has already shown strong improvement this fall and will begin to win more matches on the Sectional level by the end of 2007.


Tres Preissman (So Cal Top 400 Boys 16s, Beverly Hills, CA)
Tres, 16, returns to Weil for his second year and has shown incredible improvement over the summer months. Tres spent long hours training this summer and he will see the results of that hard work this fall when he begins winning 2 and 3 matches every tournament. Tres brings a great sense of humor to the court everyday and is great to have at the academy. When Tres begins to realize how good a game he has, he will put things together on court and surprise himself as well as other players. Tres will focus on adding consistency to his already powerful game for improved results and ranking.


Tanya Raykova (Top 40 ITF, #1 Bulgaria Girls 18s, Plovdiv, Bulgaria)
Tanya, 16, is in her 3rd year at Weil and has made an incredible leap in the ITF rankings moving from top 200 to top 50 in less than 6 months. Tanya has won major ITF titles in Costa Rica, Texas and Morocco this year with wins over some big name players. Tanya qualified for her first Jr. Grand Slam when she reached top 50 and made the trip to the US Open this fall. Tanya had another great result by reaching the final of the Ojai Tournament Women’s Professional Open this last April losing in 3 close sets to academy mate Gail Brodsky – the girls played a thrilling final that was the match of the tournament. Tanya also finished 2006 by winning the prestigious 2006 Eddie Herr International Girls 16s Singles and Doubles Titles! Tanya wants to play professional tennis full time by the age of 18 and be the greatest player ever from Bulgaria.


Jenna Ritz (Top 25 So Cal G16s, Top 200 US G 16s, Thousand Oaks, CA)
Jenna, 16, is in her 2nd year at Weil and brings a big game to the court everyday. Jenna is a great young woman and is improving steadily. We look for Jenna to improve her G16s ranking to be top 100 and then begin 2008 in the Girls 18s. Jenna has a big game that will translate well to the 18s division and college tennis in 2 years.


Evan Rose (Top 5 Nor Cal B18s, Top 150 US B18s, Berkeley, CA)
Evan, 18, is in his first year at Weil and brings a strong baseline and transition game to the court. Evan had a strong summer doing well at NorCal Sectionals and Kalamazoo. Evan has just this fall committed to play college tennis at UC Berkeley and will join the team next fall.


Peter Samway (Everett, WA)
Peter, 18, joins Weil this year and brings a deep desire to improve and play professional tennis. Peter is doing a post graduate year at Weil and we look for Peter to improve rapidly and contend for Men’s Open Titles later this year.


Tyler Schultz (Top 125 So Cal Boys 16s, Ojai, CA)
Tyler, 16, is in his 3rd year at Weil and is developing a solid ground game to go along with his power serve. Tyler is great to coach, is one of the most popular guys at Weil and will be a hot recruit for college when he is a senior. Tyler has come right out of the gates this fall winning multiple matches at consecutive tournaments and making a statement that he is a player with a deeper commitment to improving and winning. We look for Tyler to move up the rankings rapidly this fall and begin winning matches at the national level.


Riko Shimizu (Top 10 Mid West Girls 14s, Top 100 US G14s, Inverness, IL)
Riko, 13, is in her second year at Weil and is beginning to have more break throughs at the national level. Riko has a very physical game and can stand toe to toe with any 14 year old in the country. Coach Takeshi has helped Riko believe more in herself which has carried her through some tough matches this fall. We look for Riko to move up the national rankings this fall & spring and to compete in international events in the 14s.


Syogo Shimizu ( Top 100 So Cal Boys 16s, Japan)
Syogo, 15, is in his 2nd year at Weil and is a very strong young player who has a great training attitude. Syogo came to Weil last year with very little English training and proceeded to excel in his classes in junior high school. Syogo finished with perfect scores and brings that same determination to the courts everyday. Syogo is competing at a much higher level now that he is in the Boys 16s and will contend for some open titles this fall.


Kirra Simonson (Top 60 So Cal Girls 14s, Ojai, CA)
Kirra, 13, is in her third year at Weil and brings a bright personality to the courts everyday. Kirra reached the top tier in So Cal in the Girls 12s and is on the march to become one of the top girls in the 14s next year as well. Kirra has improved her technique and athleticism this year and is developing a bigger game off her serve and ground strokes. We look for Kirra to rise in the National rankings and to compete for titles on the sectional level this school year.


Noah Simonson (Top 75 So Cal Boys 18s, Ojai, CA)
Noah, 17, has been at Weil for 4 years and is now really picking up his game in the 18s division. Noah has developed a big serve and lethal forehand and is gaining confidence every week. Noah’s game is looking more and more like a Division 1 college game and we see him becoming a top prospect for some high ranked universities. Noah should qualify for Level 1 and Level 2 Nationals this year and improve his national ranking significantly.


Adam Slifkin (Top 200 So Cal Boys 18s, Yorktown Heights, NY)
Adam, 18, is in his 3rd year at Weil and is on pace to graduate this spring and start a college career at a school back east. Adam has really picked up his game this year and should move into the top 150 in So Cal by the end of the school year. Adam should have some nice choices for college for fall 2008.


Josh Slifkin (Top 200 So Cal Boys 18s, Yorktown Heights, NY)
Josh, 18, is also in his 3rd year at Weil and has dramatically improved his confidence and focus during matches. Josh enjoys attacking, plays some mean doubles and should have some strong choices for college tennis. Josh has started strong this year by winning matches at the Designtaed level and it is only a matter of time before he competes for titles at the Open level. We look for steady improvement in Josh’s game and for Josh to break into the top 100 in So Cal by next summer.


Drew Superstein (Top 50 So Cal Boys 16s, Top 200 US Boys 16s, Ojai, CA)
Drew, 16, is in his second year at Weil and has surprised everyone by how quickly he has put his game together after being out of competition for over a year. Drew’s rising confidence is startling and he now believes he can beat any player any time. Drew is having strong results consistently now at the Sectional, National and International level this fall. Drew is also a great student, a great young man and a terrific young tennis player with a great deal of desire. We expect Drew to qualify for all the big nationals this year and to improve his ranking into the top 50 in the US!


Valerie Thong (Top 15 So Cal Girls 14s Top 100 US Girls 14s, Alhmabra, CA)
Valerie, 13, is in her first year at Weil and brings a ton of athletic ability to her game. Valerie is a top talent who can hit big from the baseline and use soft touch as well. Coach Takeshi Ozaki has already refashioned her game this fall and her results are improving right away. We look for Val to reach the top 10 in So Cal and the Top 40 in the US this year as she prepares to compete more internationally in 2007 and 2008.


Monica Turewicz (Top 5 US Girls 14s, Top 90 US Girls 16s, Los Gatos, CA)
Monica, 14, comes to Weil as an established top US talent who wants to tool her game to compete at the international level in the next year. Monica had a charmed summer where she reached the semifinals of both the USTA National Clay Courts and USTA National Hard Courts tournaments. This year Monica will develop her offensive game, her serve and bring more dynamic movement to her all around game. These elements should help Monica move quickly into the top 20 in the US in Girls 16s, as well as, establish a strong ITF ranking later this year. Monica has a strong mind to go along with her big physical talent and deep competitiveness which should help her reach her goal of developing into a professional player.


David Watson (Top 800 ITF, Top 20 England Boys 16s, Shoebury Essex, UK)
David, 16, is in his first year at Weil and brings a big passion for tennis to the court everyday. David has a strong all around game and is adding consistency to a big serve and ground strokes to combine for a dangerous all court game. David is singularly driven to develop into first a top ranked international junior player and then into a successful professional player. David has all the right elements to put this together and we are excited about helping him achieve his goals in tennis.


Alyza Benotto-Wood (Top 10 So Cal Girls 12s, Top 50 US Girls 12s, Encino, CA)
Alyza, 12, is in her 3rd year at Weil and has made terrific progress this year in her strokes and her results. Alyza has a great combination of power and touch that befuddles her competition and is exciting to watch. Alyza has a lot more game to develop and should move quickly up the rankings in the nation before 2007 is out. Alyza is also establishing a strong ranking in So Cal in the Girls 14s and is way ahead of her competition. Alyza will also be returning to Florida this year to compete in the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl championships and see how her game stacks up against the international competition. We look for strong results from Alyza this year and next!


Tara Yekrang (Redwood City, CA)
Tara, 16, is in her first year at Weil and brings a great deal of athleticism to her game. Tara wants to develop into a top junior player and to play college tennis in 2 years when she graduates. Tara is a very bright young woman and will develop quickly into a tough tournament competitor. We look for exciting things from Tara.


Pedro Zerbini (Sao Paulo, Brazil, So Cal Boys 18s #3, Top 150 ITF)
Pedro, 19, finished his senior year at Weil and has started school at UC Berkeley on scholarship this fall. Pedro looks to break right into the lineup and have a positive impact on the Cal team as a freshman. Before leaving Weil, Pedro had risen quickly in the ITF rankings last year by reaching the finals of his first Grade 2 event in South Carolina and then reaching the Round of 16 at the 2006 Orange Bowl!


Kallim Stewart (Ojai, CA, Sophomore UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA)
Kallim, 20, finished 2005 ranked #1 in Boys 18s in the United States, joining a very select group of players to achieve that distinction. Kallim has begun his sophomore year at UC Berkeley and has the goal to play #2 or #3 and to finish his sophomore year ranked in the Top 50 in College Tennis. Kallim trained at Weil for 3 years and won many titles including the 2005 Winter National Boys 18s Singles Title which propelled him to #1 in the nation.


Kirsten Flower (NCAA Women’s Team Champion Goergia Tech, Top 40 Singles College Tennis, Sophomore Georgia Tech Univ., Columbus, Ohio)
Kirsten, 19, trained at Weil for 2 years and rose to #1 in Girls 14s and Girls 16s in the US while with us. Kirsten won many titles while at Weil including the Midwest Closed Singles and Doubles Titles in Girls 16s and Girls 18s in consecutive years! Kirsten also won the 2005 Ojai Tournament Girls 18s title while training at Weil and won a full scholarship to Georgia Tech to play for the Yellow Jackets under Coach Bryan Shelton. Kirsten has risen quickly in the college rankings and as a freshman was ranked top 25, led her team to a victory over Stanford snapping their long winning streak, and helping her team win a first ever NCAA Team National Championship last May. Kirsten will improve this year and her Yellow Jackets will try to defend their national title later this year.
