OJAI, CALIFORNIA
Picturesque Ojai village makes a beguiling venue for a summer break, but Mark Weil and his wife, Jane, have been making Ojai even more OK since they set up shop in 1997. Weil, a USPTA pro, has recruited a global team of eight coaches who put the students – 50 max – through mental-toughness and fitness programs, including weight-training for students 12 and older. The juniors sleep in bunk beds (boys in a dorm, girls in a house, both with round-the-clock supervision) but eat well – the Weils' full-time foodie once had a restaurant in Ojai. At week’s end, students get written assessments.
