In 1997, Mark Weil became the first coach to establish a full-time tennis boarding academy in Southern California when he opened the Weil Tennis Academy and College Preparatory School in Ojai California at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club. In less than seven years, the Academy has sent 65 players into Division 1 College Tennis Programs like USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, Illinois, Notre Dame, Alabama, Brown and Cal-Berkeley, with over 90% of the players receiving college scholarships worth over $1,000,000. The Academy has produced 4 NCAA Champions, 7 NCAA All Americans, over 50 National and International Tournament Champions, an Orange Bowl Champion, an Eddie Herr Champion and 18 Professional Tournament Winners.
Prior to founding the Academy, Mr. Weil was a USPTA professional tennis coach in New York City. In 1993, he moved to Los Angeles where he served as Director of Junior Tennis at Mountaingate Country Club in Encino, CA. While at The Gate, he developed over 40 sectional and national players - led by Jose Lieberman, who finished #2 in the U.S. in 1996 - and grew the program into the largest junior tennis program in Southern California by the time of his departure. Mr. Weil holds a B.A. in Communications from Northeast Louisiana University, where he played collegiate tennis and earned his degree on both academic and tennis scholarships.
